Pet Policy
Planning a journey with Korean Airlines and want to bring your pet as well? Korean Airlines offers multiple options for traveling with your pets/animals; based on their breed and size, they can travel in the cabin, be transported in the cargo hold, or be transferred as cargo. If you're planning to travel with your pet, a live animal acceptance must be completed and accepted at the airport. Service animals are welcome to board flights for free to assist passengers with hearing and vision impairments. Korean Airlines pet policy does not allow the shipment of aggressive dog breeds.
Korean Airlines In-cabin Pet Travel Policy:
Cats, dogs, birds, emotional support animals, and service dogs are allowed in the cabin. Requests to transport animals in the cabin are subject to space availability, the type of plane allocated, and the passenger class. The maximum permitted weight for the live animal and container is 15 lb, if you wish to travel with more pets, secure that pets traveling onboard are of the same species and are carried in the special box/container. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to fly in the cabin, and passengers must be at least 18 years old to bring pets. Travelers are required to book a separate seat for their pet and can bring a maximum of two pets of the same breed in the same container, but they should be healthy and amicable with each other. For flights to Australia, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom, pets can not travel in the cabin but in the cargo hold.
Korean Airlines Checked Baggage Pet Travel Policy:
Pets that exceed the size and are not within the prescribed limit have to travel as checked luggage. The weight of the crate and pet must not exceed 70 lbs. On Boeing 737 aircraft, live animals are not allowed.
Korean Airlines Registered Cargo Pet Travel Policy:
Pets overweight for cabin travel, checked baggage, or requiring transportation alone are transported as registered cargo.
Korean Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Pet Travel Policy:
Unaccompanied minors can not travel with a pet.
Korean Airlines Pet Carrier Requirements:
- The crate must have multiple locked mechanisms to secure the door.
- Ensure it is well-ventilated and spacious enough for your pet to stand up and turn around.
- Waterproof bottoms are essential.
- There must be room for it in the front seat of your vehicle.
- A maximum of one pet is allowed per container.
- The cabin does not allow animal crates.
Korean Airlines Pet Policy Service Dogs:
Customers with visual or hearing disabilities are welcome to bring service dogs with them for no additional charge. A minimum notice of 48 hours is required for service dogs, and there is no weight restriction.
Korean Airlines Pet Travel Charges:
Around 100 USD is charged for a one-way trip if your pet travels in the cabin for flights from Korea to/from Japan, China, Taiwan, and Macao; for flights to Mongolia, in-flight pet transportation charges are 200 USD; and lastly flights from Asia to the USA and within Asia, the cost is 150 USD. To transport your pet as checked baggage, a cost between 100 USD to 200 USD is charged for pets weighing less than 32 kg, and a cost of 300 USD to 400 USD for pets weighing between 32 and 45 kg. Lastly, to transport your pet as registered cargo, the cost differs from route to route, you have to call Korean airlines customer cares to know the exact prices.
